ager@google.com 6e945a2578 Optimize the message queue for many active ports with few messages.
The current message queue implementation is very inefficient if you are using
many active ports with few messages. This happens when you use 'call' a lot
on ports which is currently done in dart:io.

This patch does not remove messages from the queue when closing a port. Instead
it drops messages for closed ports when it processes them. This dramatically
speeds up dart:io benchmarks that enqueue tons of writes on a file output
stream.

tball@google.com 3282ae3f72 Second version of support for specifying an unhandled exception callback
in Dart. Isolate.spawnFunction optionally takes a callback parameter,
which is not resolved until an unhandled exception occurs. If a callback
wasn't specified, the VM will then call an "_unhandledExceptionCallback"
function if it is defined in the isolate's source file. If no callback
is provided, the error is logged as the isolate is closed.

ager@google.com e676e88f81 Introduce a VM-only dart:scalarlist library for byte arrays.
Include it in the SDK so users can use it. Create a dummy
implementation and patch file for the library for dart2js so it can be
documented. Johnni, can you think of a nicer way of making
documentation generation work for a VM only library? Also, it seems that
patching kills the documentation comments and they do not show up in
the generated docs.

cshapiro@google.com 265e2306f5 Add a weak property type to the virtual machine.
Weak properties are key-value pairs. The liveness of the key determines
the liveness of the value. If the key is reachable the value is traced.
However, if the key is unreachable, the value is subject to finalization.

At present, the sole finalization action is clearing the key and value
fields. However, it is possible to extend this to invoking callbacks or
other techniques, as well as processing values in topological order.

asiva@google.com 5fd180cdfc 1. Register canonical names for internal VM classes and get rid of the method GetSingletonClassName
2. Create the empty_array object as a singleton in the VM isolate and remove it from the object store
3. Remove eager population of the functions_cache entry in the class. This results in a pretty impressive reduction of the initial isolate heap size:
    - on IA32 it goes from 1331k to 1071k
    - on X64 it goes from 2431k to 1911k
    - snapshot size also is reduced from 859219 bytes to 789147 bytes.
(as a follow up change I will consider completely removing functions cache)

turnidge@google.com 6a8c82db83 Implement spawnUri from dart:isolate. This function allows us to
launch an isolate running a different script. Finally.

Reviewers: This isn't as hard to review as it looks. Dive right in!

Siggi: Take a look at my test status file changes and make sure I'm
excluding the right stuff.

Much of the churn in the CL comes from moving ownership of the
import_map. It used to be set per-library and is now set per-isolate.
This caused a lot of superficial diffs.

DART EMBEDDING API CHANGES:

- Dart_IsolateCreateCallback now takes a script_uri and main argument
instead of a name_prefix argument. The script_uri argument allows
the callback to launch different scripts. The main argument is used
in creating the isolate debug name.

- Dart_CreateIsolate now takes script_uri and main arguments. These
are used to build the isolate's debug name.

- Dart_LibraryTagHandler, Dart_LoadScript, and Dart_LoadLibrary no
  longer take an import_map.

- Added Dart_SetImportMap.

- Added Dart_RootLibrary to provide access to the root library for the
  current isolate.

OTHER STUFF

Add a couple of tests for spawnUri -- the existing tests assume that
scripts end in a .js suffix which isn't going to work out for us.

Changed how the debug name for isolates get built a bit.

Refactored bin/main.cc a bit. Fixed some problems with error handling
while creating isolates.

Minor refactoring in builtin.dart to always pass is_windows rather
than relying on it being squirreled away.

On standalone dartium which has about 50000 tokens in the libraries (core, coreimpl, builtin, io etc.) this reduces the heap size by about 180kb. The size of the standalone snapshot buffer reduces by about 72kb.

Also moved the keyword symbol table to the object store so that it does not have to repopulated on every script compilation. Should benefit regular user script load times.

turnidge@google.com 9da62c5fea Add Dart_PropagateError.
This function can be used in native functions to properly pass all
errors up the stack.

Set the long jump base in the Compiler instead of outside of the
compiler. A bunch of errors that used to be propagated through the
sticky_error are now propagated through return values. This includes
all of the DartEntry and DartLibraryCall functions.

In particular, we no longer use the long jump to cross dart frames.
Instead errors are propagated across dart frames using the same
mechanism that we use for unhandled exceptions. I've added assertions
to make sure that we only use the long jump when it is "safe".

cshapiro@google.com 569ef3c044 Add ByteArray interface and provide internal and external implementations.
The new ByteArray interface supersedes the ByteBuffer type which allowed
only external data storage. This type has been removed and replaced by
the more flexible ByteArray with a default implementation that stores its
elements on the managed heap.

I do this in preparation for using the sticky error to implement
isolate unwinding.

turnidge@google.com 55e33151db Introduce the Error object class in the vm. It represents all of the
things that may go wrong while invoking the dart api.

Here are the four types of error:

- ApiError = the user misused one of the dart apis
- LanguageError = a language-level problem, e.g. compiler error
- UnhandledException = an uncaught exception made its way to the embedder
- UnwindError = a forced isolate interrupt

This cl is the first of a series. I plan to move the point of
creation for LanguageErrors into the Parser, etc. I also plan to move
the longjmp's out of dart_api_impl.cc. I also also plan to implement
UnwindErrors later.

while our stack is hurting. This allows us to get rid of the stack

cshapiro@google.com 1cff31c3d0 Implement external strings.
External strings refer to character data in memory located outside of
the managed heap. This memory is considered to be owned by the
embedding application. To help with the management of external
memory, the virtual machine allows the embedding application to
register for a "death notice" when an external string object is
garbage collected. A death notice takes the form of a callback
invoked by the garbage collector with the address of the external
memory. Death notices will be implemented in the garbage collector by
future commit.
