Samir Jindel ab2026af45 [vm/aot] Only patch call-sites to monomorphic entry-points when the receiver is proven to be a heap object.
Flutter Gallery ARMv8: -0.8% total, -1.3% instructions
Flutter Gallery ARMv7: -0.7% total, -1.2% instructions

There are some performance regressions, in four categories:

1. Arithmetic on num types (e.g. MinLib, MaxLib):
   We believe arithmetic on num types is rare in practice, and can be optimized later
   by specializing the call-sites.

2. Lack of types (e.g. MeshDecompression, ImagingGaussianBlur, Crypto*):
   These (and similar benchmarks) are written in a very untyped style, which is not
   representative of Dart 2 style. We've confirmed that the regressions disappear if
   the benchmarks are annotated with appropriate types.

3. Megamorphic calls which are specialized in the benchmark (e.g. DeltaBlue):
   DeltaBlue uses string interpolation in one place, so the toString() method in the
   string interpolation helper is monomorphic for _Smis. However, in a realistic programs,
   string interpolation is used much more frequently and with different types, so it's very
   unlikely that this call would be monomorphic. When string interpolation is removed, there's
   a remaining 1.3% regression on DeltaBlue which is not yet accounted for.

4. Noisy benchmarks
   The remaining regressions are on benchmarks which show frequent jitter historically.

There are also 1-4% improvements on many benchmarks (Golem's "noise" analysis is hiding
many of them, look at the graphs).

For the reasons above, we believe the regressions justified by the code size improvement.

However, due to the increased inlining opportunities, we end up emitting 0.5%

Alexander Markov 77ac3d0a5c [vm/aot/tfa] Introduce TFA-specific representation of classes (refactoring)
New class representation is used in ConcreteType and ConeType instead of
DartType. Uses of pre-NNBD legacy raw types are eliminated in most cases.
This also simplifies subtype checks.

TypesBuilder class is created to translate static types into
TFA types. It holds CoreTypes which is used to recognize Null class
and supersedes Type.cone and Type.fromStatic factory constructors.

This is the relanding of https://dart-review.googlesource.com/c/sdk/+/121500

Original CL description:

This change adds transformation for very early cleanup of unreachable
code such as code guarded by if statements with constant conditions or
code used in assert statements when assertions are disabled.

The advantage of cleaning such code early is that type-flow analysis
won't be looking at it and TFA-based tree shaker is able to remove
more code.

Alexander Markov 9e2ce9a773 [vm,bytecode] Avoid duplicated initializing StoreFieldTOS
This is the follow-up for 46cef9bfdd.
After that change, VM's optimizer (canonicalization) removes
initializing stores which store null, even if they're overwriting the
result of another initializing store. This causes incorrect behavior
in cases like this:

class A {
  int x = 3;
  A() : x = null {}
}

To accomodate for this change in the VM's optimizer, bytecode generator
should elide duplicate stores, similarly to AST-based flow graph
builder.

Fixes language_2/field_parameter_test in AOT mode with bytecode.

Alexander Markov 62ee78eeec [vm,bytecode] Generate calls for causal-async-stacks more consistently
In order to support causal-async-stacks, the following synthetic calls
are inserted: _asyncStackTraceHelper, _setAsyncThreadStackTrace and
_clearAsyncThreadStackTrace.

_asyncStackTraceHelper is always generated in the async transformation.
_setAsyncThreadStackTrace and _clearAsyncThreadStackTrace are inserted
during bytecode generation (or in the flow graph builder in case of AST
pipeline). If bytecode generation options are set inconsistently with
--causal-async-stacks VM option, then it was possible that
_asyncStackTraceHelper was generated but other calls were not generated,
causing incorrect (full, non-truncated) async stack traces. This also
causes performance regression as collecting full stack traces takes
much more time.

This change makes generation of all these calls more consistent: if
causal async stacks are disabled during bytecode generation, then all
three calls are omitted. Also, in case these calls were generated and
present in bytecode, but VM option --causal-async-stacks is disabled,
then bytecode flow graph builder turns all these three calls into no-ops.

> Reason for revert: Reverting enabling of constant-update-2018 by default as some blocking issues were found that are breaking Flutter and preventing rolls of Dart into Flutter. Once the blocking issues are addressed and fixed this CL will be relanded.
